U18 Boys

Player of the Year – Callum Laddiman

Players’ Player – Cameron Lynch

Most Improved – Ben Winter

With most of last season’s U16 squad merging with the younger of the previous U18 squad, finding a style of play that suited this newly blended group was going to be a top priority.  It was immediately apparent that this was a very talented bunch of players who had an immediate close bond, probably due to the fact all were current or ex HCC students.

The season got off to a flyer and the boys quickly established themselves as title favourites by comfortably beating all comers. They were especially dominant at home where the large pitch and good surface suited their passing and possession dominating game.  A particular highlight was when they dispatched the mighty Eastbourne Borough 8-1. Crowborough soon followed being beaten 12-1.

This latest victory was part of a cup run that took the boys to the CDJFL cup final where they met their main rivals for the league, TW Foresters.  The final proved to be a tense affair with Broad Oak finally emerging victorious after a late equaliser in normal time before extra time and penalties.  For some of the older group this was the first cup they had won since starting at the club as 5 year olds.

Unfortunately a combination of injuries and fixture backlog got the better of us so we had to settle for league runners-up.  That just leaves the tour to Salou in Spain where other than saying that we gave an excellent academy standard team (who probably had more than 3 hours sleep) a real scare all I can say is, I can’t wait for next year!!
