Goalkeepers Academy

Welcome to our page, dedicated to the Broad Oak & Horam Goalkeepers Academy which has been kindly sponsored by Inter Sport of Lewes & Seaford.

We would like to thank John and Sue Baldock for their fabulous support in funding the creation of this unique coaching facility that has been running every fortnight for two seasons now, and which has become a jewel in the crown of our wonderful club.

‘Inspiring’ was a word the Academy Coaches would often hear last season from admiring parents of other clubs who witnessed our sessions. We only train our own dedicated club goalkeepers in each age group (or their reserve keeper), and the sessions run every other Saturday morning at Horam – 9am to 10.30am. Should an age group keeper attend at least 4 times then they have earned the right to wear one of our very distinctive ‘lime’ coloured GKA shirts which they must wear to each session. At the end of the morning the coaches also award a certificate for ‘Save of the Day’ and another for ‘Keeper of the Week’ which always proves popular too, and so the two names plus a summary of the morning is entered onto our blog page for all to read.

Our numbers just keep on growing – from Rookies, throught he girls teams, right the way through to our U16’s, and we average over a dozen keepers at each session. Our plan is to do more intensive coaching of the 11-a-side keepers in a separate group, so we will need all of them to attend in order for this to work well. Otherwise we will link in with the age group managers to offer midweek clinics during their own training sessions – taking away the keeper in order to provide 1:1d coaching by a GKA Coach.

So welcome to another exciting season of Keeper Coaching! Please ensure they bring a drink, their keeper bag (ask them what they should contain!), their gloves and that they are wearing their Academy Shirt. (If it gets too small, Please do not throw them away as they are expensive. Simply hand it back to one of the Academy Coaches to be passed down to another child – and we will issue you with a larger size!) Finally, a huge well done to the great number of our Academy Keepers who won player of the year awards last season – testament to the dedication and attitude to their training sessions. So catch us here each and every week for all the latest news and gossip on when the next GKA session takes place – miss it, miss out!
