Summary of last season’s under 18’s – Retired for now

For the 2017/18 season, the team incorporated 3 players from the previous U18s team and had a strong squad. Our early season form was good, and we headed towards the top of the table. We had a little blip over the winter, which put us back, but we were reignited by wins over Edenbridge. As the season end drew near, we knew that 5 points would secure the title from our last 4 games.

Unfortunately, we had a little wobble, and had to win on the final day of the season to force a Playoff match. When it really mattered, we performed and beat Bexhill United comfortably to see us level on points with Edenbridge, which meant a League Championship Playoff.

We played Edenbridge at Jarvis Brook, and took a 2-0 lead at half time. Edenbridge pulled us back to 2-1, but we really showed our class to pull clear and win 5-1 to secure the U18s League title. A wonderful achievement.

At Broad Oak Tournament, we had 2 competitive teams, with both reaching the semi-finals. The Red Team lost 1-0 in harsh circumstances, but the Blue Team made it through to play Hooe in the final. After a close game, it finished 0-0, and penalties. Josh Irwin saved all 5, and we scored a couple of crucial ones to retain the Broad Oak Tournament trophy. Another great achievement.

After 10 years, Ian and I will be stepping aside from the Team. It’s been great fun, and we have enjoyed every minute. We have had great success, with 3 League titles, 3 tournament wins, and Knockout cx`up win and also 2 sportsmanship awards. It has been great to see the lads grow up, and the life skills they have attained from their football.
